"Casey the
Wonder Horse" at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, performing at a picnic, About Billy the Kid HOME page Thanks for visiting Casey's page which is linked off of my personal web site about the West's most famous outlaw: Billy the Kid, by Marcelle Brothers (me). Aside from my horse hobby, I'm a American History and Billy the Kid enthusiast. So after constructing my web site on Billy the Kid, I couldn't resist the urge to dedicate a page to my special horse -Casey. Let me tell you a little about his background. When I first bought Casey sixteen years ago, he was a packhorse on a dude ranch in Colorado. When the summer was over he was brought down to Chino, California, where I bought him. He was a mess and a sad sight, he was underweight, shaggy, covered in wounds and sores, and he wasn't well broke under saddle, but we clicked with each other and I bought him. After six months of TLC, he looked like an entirely different horse. No longer the sorry looking nag he once was, but he had his spirit back and was flashy looking. His coat lost it's dull color and turned shiny gold, and his short, yellow stained mane and tail was now long and snow white. Wherever we went, we turned heads. I immediately noticed Casey's intelligence and willingness to please, so to break the monotony of riding on the same trails and going around and around in an arena, I began trick training Casey just for fun. I was influenced by the old B-westerns, particularly Roy and Trigger, so through trial and error (and lucky enough to have a patient horse) I had Casey performing tricks as good as Trigger. We have performed at special events such as picnics, wild west shows, parades, and we've done some movie work. Hopefully, one day Casey will have his big break and star in his own movie, and maybe even have a Breyer horse made in his image. Tricks and Behaviors Casey can perform tricks both under saddle and at liberty. His tricks consist of the rear (both in the saddle and at liberty), bow, kneel on two knees, chest bow, dance the Rumba, Spanish walk, paw the ground on cue, nod his head yes and no, look and turn his head to the left or right, smile by curling his upper lip up, open and close doors or lids, kick on command. At liberty (free with no lead line) he can come, stop, stay, back-up, and look to the left or right all by hand signals or verbal command. Also, he has a wonderful sweet personality and he is utterly fantastic with people, particularly with kids- he's a real people horse. Movie credits "The Four Diamonds" 1995, (Disney cable movie). For this project Casey reared, did some liberty work and a jousting scene on the beach. This movie was shot in Florence and Three Sisters, Oregon. "Turbo Rangers: The Movie" 1997 (feature film). For a small role, Casey was dressed as a alien like creature, and canter through a forest chasing a midget actor dressed as a troll. This movie was shot at Griffith Park in Burbank, California. "Total Fear", 2003 (Animal Planet Channel /mini-series documentary on animal phobias). The stunt required Casey to rear, pivot on his hind legs, and gallop away due to a cowboy's overreaction to a snake. I doubled for the cowboy and also shot camera footage for the cowboy's view on horseback. It was filmed at Stony Point Park in Chatsworth, California. Casey has also worked on a promo for a TV movie called Fire Rider, from Here Me Roar Productions Here are some photos of Casey the Wonder Horse....
