Young
Guns: More than a Breakthrough Western
Two days ago on WalesOnline.co.uk, an
article was posted about a notorious drug smuggler named Howard Marks
being a descendant of Billy the Kid. He claims that his great-grandfather
was Billy the Kid's half brother, named Patrick. FALSE...Billy's half
brother was named Joseph and there's plenty of documentation that says so.
He also states, that Patrick left America to escape the bad name of his
brother and changed his name to Marks. FALSE...Joe Antrim continued to live
in the southwest. The bad name of his famous brother had no affect on him at
all. Joe bounced around from New Mexico and Arizona, before settling in
Colorado where he died a grumpy lonely old man. There is no record of Joe
ever being married or rumors of fathering any children. If you happen across
this story, don't believe a word of it.

This news is a little belated, but last month, once again, Gov. Bill
Richardson is talking about pardoning Billy the Kid. Haven't we been through
this already? Check out my webpage
The Controversy on the Billy
the Kid DNA Investigation on the can of worms that was opened a few
years back. I thought the lid was finally closed, but here we go again. My
thoughts...Yes, Billy was promised a pardon when he made a deal with Gov.
Lew Wallace in the spring of 1879. Yes, he deserved it because Billy did
everything he promised and more. And yes, Gov. Wallace used and betrayed
him. Although, Billy was a scapegoat for the Lincoln County War and was
unfairly trialed and sentence to death, all bets were off for a pardon when
he killed his two guards during his escaped from incarceration in Lincoln on
April 28, 1881. In my opinion, this posthumous pardon is a publicity stunt
and just a way for Gov. Richardson to get his name in the history books as
the "Governor who pardon Billy the Kid." What good will a pardon
do Billy the Kid now? It won't rewrite history. It won't change public
opinion of him. This announcement by Gov.
Richardson has caused quite a stir with Billy the Kid aficionados,
historians, and even Pat Garrett and Lew Wallace descendants. For more,

event to tour Lincoln County's historical sites and hear lectures from
notable historians/authors on the history of Billy the Kid, such as Fred
Nolan, Michael Wallis, and Drew Gomber. Vist the WWHA

The "About Billy the Kid Message Board" was closed down
tonight. For those of you that missed my announcement on the board dated
April 26, 2009 for why I
was doing so, here it is:
After careful consideration and a decision I've thought long
and hard about, I'm sorry to announce that the About Billy the Kid
Message Board will be closing down at the end of the month.
The reason being is I don't have time to run this board and monitor it's
activity. As the webmistress and board administrator, it's my responsibility
to be active and respond to comments and debate with information that I deem
as inaccurate. Although there is some great information posted here, there
is also alot of historical inaccuracies giving false impressions to readers;
because I'm not active here I can't refute those inaccuracies. I'm not doing
justice to the history of Billy the Kid or my readers to let this continue.
I'll also confess that I'm burned out and growing out of my Billy the Kid
phase. The anxiety of refereeing arguments, debating, enforcing rules, and
judging when a member needs to be banned has worn me down. My passion has
become a chore. Although, I will always have a love for history and Billy
the Kid, I need to take a break.
I know some of you may ask, "why not appoint moderators to help you?"
Because I only trust one or two to moderate the way I would and even they
don't want the stress and headache. Quite frankly, since it's my board it
wouldn't be right to pass the duty on to someone else.
I can't ignore my board anymore as I've been doing, it's not fair to my
members or readers. I'm TRULY sorry to do this and believe me I thought it
over for along time. I even discussed it with some of my longtime supporters
and board members and they agree it's for the best.
Thank you all for your membership and support. Good luck to you all.
After the above announcement, I had decided to lock the
board, but remain open for viewing-only for another week, so members could copy
their content and private messages for their own records. As of today, it's
officially closed.
As a result for shutting the board down, I have resurrected the "BULLETIN
BOARD" webpage, so I could still make announcements and make my visitors
aware of any updates or changes made to the website, or any interesting news
on Billy the Kid or history in general.
I will also like to mention I'm currently updating the
website's appearance, information, correct those pesky broken links
throughout the website, and
plan to improve the gallery page and add more images (even videos hopefully). Bear with me as these
changes are made, I'm limited on spare time.
Thank you!
